Safety
Proven Air Charter Safety
Safety is an integral part of our culture. Our commitment to aviation safety is guided and maintained by a program of ongoing initiatives. We work only with air charter operators and pilots who meet a high level of internal safety standards - many exceeding those required by FAR Part 135 regulations. We believe that safety is the responsibility of every employee, from our service teams to our in house Chief Safety Officer. Our goal is to be a true industry leader in the advancement of safety in private aviation.
Safety Board
Atlantic is led by a Board of leading aviation experts. The Board provides proactive recommendations that continually improve upon our safety programs. Comprised of former officials from the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board, our Safety Board was created and established by our company in 2005. The Board proactively guides all of our safety initiatives and works with our full-time Chief Safety Officer and Executive Management team to implement across all of our programs.
Independent Safety Advisory Board
- Dave Thomas, Chairman - Former Director, Office of Accident Investigation, FAA
- Greg Phillips - Former Lead Investigator, NTSB
- Christopher Hill - President, ElanAir Inc. D/B/A Heritage Flight
- Bill Campbell - Director of Regulatory Compliance, CAE
- Charles Starkowsky - Chief Safety Officer, Sentient Jet
Certified Operators
At Atlantic Aviation Flight Services, we work only with the most qualified operators in the country. This small group of certified operators must meet the strict standards we have set for our program. They are required to undergo both internal and independent examinations of their operations and management, and will not fly for our clients if any of our standards are not met.
Our extensive operator examination covers:
- Review of operator's FAA Operations Specifications Manual
- Review of corporate ownership and management team
- Agreement to initial and ongoing inspections and audits conducted by our field teams
- Review of individual aircraft history, including maintenance reliability
- Collection and verification for every pilot and crewmember
- Review of pilot experience and training - work history, education, FAA license verification, Pilot Certificate history, etc.
- Collection of data from ARG/US
- Physical aircraft inspection
Of note, fewer than 25% of the more than 550 charter jet operators in the United States have passed the certification process to fly for Sentient clients.
Pilot Qualifications
In addition to our operators, all of the operator's crew must be individually certified by our company. Aircraft pilots must also uphold a high level of safety standards, exceeding FAR Part 135 regulations in multiple categories. This includes total time in a particular aircraft; Total flight hours as Pilot-in-Command; and, Total flight hours as Pilot-in-Command of a specific aircraft.
All of the pilots who fly for our program have an impressive amount of experience. We constantly monitor all of these pilots and the most recent figure shows that the average total flying time for pilots who were captain for flights we arrange was over 9,400 hours.
